Sending Support to Hurricane Sandy Victims

Gerry and Rhonda Thiele are heading to the East Coast this weekend to provide humanitarian relief to the victims of Superstorm Sandy.  Gerry, owner of Precision Hearing in Michigan City, and Rhonda just returned from a mission trip in Honduras and are now packing up a vehicle with supplies to leave on Saturday.  Providing humanitarian relief is an avocation for them and part of their calling.  They are devoted to the work of Ministry Connection Global Outreach, which is affiliated with the American Red Cross and Rapid Response.

Gerry and Rhonda inspired us! So we are donating 30 cases of our Cook’s Delight Chicken Base to their effort to help get basic necessities to the storm ravaged area.

Back To School Nutrition Choices Begin At Home

It’s back to school time again, and it is important for parents to be aware of the nutrition choices that their children are making every day at lunchtime. An excellent first step towards ensuring that your child eats a healthier lunch would be to review the school lunch menu every week with your child and have them pick what they would like to eat. Discuss which foods the child likes and which foods might be a healthier alternative. Children are more likely to eat healthily if they are involved in the process of deciding what they’re going to eat.

Packing a lunch for your child is usually the best way to ensure that your child will bring a healthy meal to school, but that does not necessarily mean that the meal will be eaten. To help assure that your child will eat their lunch, involve them in the process of making the lunch. When packing a healthy lunch, include something sweet for your child, such as mini chocolate bars or a box of raisins, so that they won’t look elsewhere to satisfy their craving for sweets.

Another important factor in teaching your child to eat healthy is to not send mixed messages to them by allowing them to eat unhealthily at home. Be sure to eat nutritious meals at home to set an example for the children. Taking the time to make a healthier meal may affect your child’s future nutrition choices.

Here at Cook’s Delight we have been making and enjoying a lot of tasty vegan plant based recipes that use our soup bases. Vegan dining is especially challenging when dining out trying to select vegan meals off the menu.

We have done a lot of experimenting at home and in our test kitchen here at our manufacturing plant to come up with some great plant based vegan recipes that even some of our “meat loving” employees really enjoy.  Our Cook’s Delight Vegan Vegetable Base and Cook’s Delight Roasted Garlic Concentrate are some favorites that are versatile and add delicious background flavor.

As the vegan movement continues to grow and gain momentum we hope to offer many more flavorful vegan soup base and gravy mix options to our catalog of products.
